From the size and shape of the book to elements like type and layout, you’ll learn what it takes to transform a manuscript into a professional book.

You can check out their specifications, and even download their Book Printing Preparation Checklist PDF. Download blank templates, or pre-filled templates with sample content, if you want to have an overall example of how a book will appear with the template.

Story Fable

For example, readers will notice a larger font before they notice a smaller one. Likewise, a light colour against a darker background will definitely stand out more than a light colour against a slightly darker background. You don’t need a fancy template to start with; you can simply make do with the free templates that are available for download on these sites. However, if you want to purchase a template, there are some paid book templates that you can buy if you choose to.

Featuring an easy-to-use design, this responsive template generator is great if you know the specifics of your book’s layout, such as binding and size. Then, you can open the folder for each styled template, and select the file you need. If you are using Word, you’ll want to click on the .doc or .docx file, depending on which Word version you are using.

Get Your Professionally-Formatted Interior

You can make a variety of projects, including a template for books. Once you choose your book type and generate an outline, you'll get access to a done-for-you template in Google Docs. You can start by selecting which program you are using to write your book, and Microsoft Word is the first option you can select. You’ll need to know the document type needed, the book option, template size, color (if applicable), and orientation to generate your template. You can unzip the folder in the language you need, which will give you access to the various sized book templates.

The hallmark of great design is simplicity, so resist the urge to pack your book cover design with too many elements. The goal is to provide your reader with only what they need to know to be intrigued to pick up your book and learn more. Your reader should know whether your book is funny, romantic, tragic, or scary with one glance at the cover. Mood is usually communicated through your choice of fonts, colours, and imagery, so each element you use to build your design has to support the overall mood of your book.

Joel Friedlander’s Book Design Templates take the mystery out of formatting attractive, easy-to-read print-on-demand books. No detail has been overlooked  from fonts and design options to detailed instructions ̶ in offering a complete solution. Joel Friedlander’s template tools are easy to use, beautiful and so affordable. Content creators drop their Word files into one of the templates, follow the easy-to-use guide and then export out both print (PDFs) and eBook (Epub) formats. Users can take those files, upload them into IngramSpark and they work like magic.

Authors who design their own covers often run into trouble because their close connection to their books lead to covers that confuse readers rather than invite them. Many authors underestimate the importance of this step and fail to see how book layout design can actually mean the difference between a good and bad reading experience. A strong book interior is balanced and aesthetically pleasing in its choice of font, type size, line spacing, chapter headings, and margins — all of which should come together to form a perfect whole. Of course, the more varied the book in terms of content (charts, illustrations, photos, recipes, poems, etc.), the more important the work of the typesetter becomes.

Is this the ultimate Antarctica cruise ship? Our take on Lindblad's new vessel

national geographic cruise ships

Containers and snack trays are either reusable or biodegradable. Daywear is important, not so much from a fashion sense but from a practical point of view for the environmental conditions expected. In the tropics, cool, light and sun-smart is appropriate, comprising long sleeves, wide-brimmed hats, walking shoes and water-friendly sandals like Tevas.

Key cruising tips

national geographic cruise ships

On its Europe itineraries, cocktails are also complimentary, as is wine and beer with lunch and dinner. A selection of tours in each port, one almost always an active offering with bicycles or hiking, is included in the cruise fare. If it's your first time on Lindblad, you may be bowled over, if not a bit intimidated, by the exuberance of its very passionate repeaters. It can feel like old school week, as repeaters, who on our trip represented well over 50 percent, already know each other, having bonded on voyages to the exotic destinations that Lindblad's famous for. All that's needed to feel like a member of the Lindblad club is an insatiable curiosity about the world and traveling, an adventurous spirit and the willingness to try new adventures.

Dining and Beverages

This was the practice prior to mechanization in this highly productive wheat area. Walla Walla is a wonderful town with a vibrant wine scene and bustling commercial district, which allowed for more wine tasting and shopping, including wine ice cream. The crew and staff onboard consists of service personnel and expedition team members who accompany guests on shore excursions. The service is friendly and the crew take extra care accommodating the needs of the guests. As with many expedition cruise vessels, much of what you came for is included. Typically, that will mean all meals, excursions and any onboard enrichment lectures.

From the Antarctic Circle to the Weddell Sea

But with an ability to travel at nearly 17 knots, National Geographic Resolution had reached them far faster. The ship has powerful engines that let it travel at more than 16 knots even in rough seas — several knots more than is typical for most expedition vessels. Currently, there are 15 expedition ships in the Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic fleet. However, a brand new ship, the National Geographic Islander II will debut in August 2022.

Travel

Neat and practical is more important than showy, so you can safely leave the sequins at home. Otherwise a comfortable shirt and blouse, slacks and sensible shoes are all that's needed. While the general makeup of passengers is largely mature Americans, traveling as either couples or singles, Lindblad encourages younger people, too. It's not unusual to find at least one family with older children or active grandparents. The new ship does not completely ignore trends in the small ship arena, however, with dedicated spa and gym facilities and nearly half the cabins with private balconies. Most of the crew who'd worked for the ship under its Orion ownership have stayed on with Lindblad.

Public areas are on Deck 4, where the dining room and lounge are located. Naturalists usually man this area, seeking wildlife and dispensing information to guests. Purpose built to accommodate expedition-style travel, the National Geographic Endeavour II is elegant, nimble, and equipped with state-of-the-art tools for up-close and personal explorations. She carries just 96 guests and features many public spaces that invite observation and community. Zodiac to pristine beaches, kayak or stand-up paddleboard along volcanic shores, explore wildlife on land or under the sea. Experience the Galápagos aboard our elegant and nimble ship, well-equipped for up-close exploration.

Even the art on the walls—from the Hurley prints of Shackleton’s expedition to the stunning National Geographic photos— tells an uber-narrative of globe-spanning travel and a dedication to curiosity and wonder. Frequent travelers might be able to ease the financial burden a bit. All members — regardless of status — will enjoy a $250 onboard credit to use on incidentals. As I experienced during my 10-night sailing, the ship's two main eateries have a focus on locally sourced and sustainable cuisine from South America that is well prepared.

ROUND-TRIP GALÁPAGOS AIR INCLUDED UP TO $1,400

An ice-strengthened hull allows the ship to penetrate deep fjords in the Arctic and sail through pack ice in Antarctica. A Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic cruise isn’t like any other cruise. You’ll experience a unique trip that will immerse you into the culture of your destinations. Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic is a cruise line like no other. When you’re on a one of these cruises, you’ll not only travel to remote and exotic locations, but you’ll do so in the company of world-renowned photographers, naturalists, and scientists. Lindblad does provide a packing list for guests and also offers rentals of outdoor gear like boots or other gear for those who don’t wish to purchase their own.

Just outside the spa, on an outer deck, are two innovative glass-walled "igloos" where passengers can spend the night under the stars on a first-come, first-serve basis. The spa, notably, has saunas with glass walls offering views to the ocean as well as a separate yoga studio -- something you don't normally find on an expedition ship. The whale encounter went on so long that some of the ship's hotel staff eventually came out in a Zodiac with hot chocolate to pass to passengers looking for a warm-up. They also brought out Kahlua, Frangelico and a few other liqueurs to splash into it — a lovely touch. Every day brought something a little different as we stopped at a wide variety of sites. At Neko Harbor, a picture-perfect, mountain-lined bay flanked by a glacier calving into the sea, we landed by Zodiac late one evening to marvel at large numbers of gentoo penguins.

The small desk features a bright light, outlets for US plugs and USB ports. A giant atlas, a copy of a current National Geographic magazine, a map of the current cruise and catalog of the Lindblad cruises being offered in the next two years are tucked away in a shelf above the desk. Get FREE email communications from Fodor's Travel, covering must-see travel destinations, expert trip planning advice, and travel inspiration to fuel your passion.

Guests should be aware that there are no specific areas on the ship for children. However, on the Alaska itineraries, National Geographic offers a Global Explorers program. Younger guests interact with naturalists and engage in age-appropriate activities. The main dining room offers fixed-time seating for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch and dinner offerings come from a limited menu that typically offers a meat, fish and vegetarian dish. The ship itself consists of five decks, with the uppermost deck, the Sun Deck, an ideal spot for viewing.

Fares for 11-night Antarctica cruises on the vessel start at $16,780 per person, based on double occupancy — more than $1,500 per day. The more passengers an expedition ship has on board in Antarctica, the more its expedition guides have to break them up into separate groups for landings, greatly slowing down the process of exploring at any single landing site. It doesn't offer butlers with every cabin, as one luxury vessel sailing to Antarctica does. Yet it's still a stylish and comfortable ship — more so than many expedition vessels. For starters, it has one of the best Zodiac launch set-ups I've ever seen.

Sustainability is a focus of Lindblad Expeditions and that carries over to the food. Sustainable seafood is served along with fresh, local produce when available. Each sailing includes lecturers and naturalists who share their knowledge of the flora, fauna and culture of the area. Experts in their fields, these speakers connect all of the dots. Guest may think that they have learned enough to themselves be worthy of a degree. Create professional content with Canva, including presentations, catalogs, and more.

Lindblad passengers are not generally sloppy, so you won't see shorts and T-shirts at dinner. On the captain's night, few if any men will have jackets or ties. Today’s voyage was graced with smooth seas and a blue sky while guests enjoyed the amenities of the lovely National Geographic Orion . Our team of naturalists gave presentations throughout the day, preparing us for the adventures that await us in the Samoa Islands. The hotel team made sure no one went hungry, as we enjoyed meals outside in the fresh air.

Lindblad's fleet of expedition ships sailing to exciting destinations

The veteran expedition leader who designed Zodiac loading platforms to get guests off the ship and exploring twice as quickly. The undersea specialists and divemasters who dive and launch ROVs on your behalf to capture video in polar sites and outfit guests for exploring tropical coral reefs. The chefs who create incredible meals as the ship sails to remote regions far from replenishment. By the photographers and naturalists who lead Recap in the ships’ lounges. To Sven Lindblad himself, whose ‘Circle of Truth’ podium is at the center of the lounge and the heart of the expedition community.

She had to be able to handle deep swells and towering waves—and have a high degree of maneuverability. Those traits, and an ideal size, made her a natural choice for addition to the Lindblad fleet. The result is that passengers on smaller ships in Antarctica get to see far more wildlife and scenery up close than passengers on bigger ships. While National Geographic Resolution isn't marketed as a luxury vessel, it does offer a rare and luxurious touch — the intimacy that comes with a vessel designed for just 126 people. This is something that can be a real advantage on an expedition trip to a place like Antarctica.

More about Lindblad Expeditions National Geographic Orion

Dunham Cellars was enjoyed for their acclaimed cabernet sauvignon, syrah, and chardonnay. Everyone then met at Three Rivers Winery for a catered lunch with wine tasting and an enjoyable bask in the warm sun, supplemented by frisbee golf, corn hole contests, and relaxing on the deck. The afternoon was spent at Fort Walla Walla Museum and downtown Walla Walla. Fort Walla Walla has many exhibits from the late 1800s to early 1900s, including a full-sized diorama of a team of 33 mules used to move the large wheat combines.

Departure Ports

While most passengers like to dress resort casual in the evening, Orion has a largely informal, but neat, dress code. It might be wise to pack one smart outfit for the Captain's dinner -- perhaps shirts, ties and jackets for men and dressy blouses for ladies. National Geographic Resolution is one of two nearly identical vessels that Lindblad Expeditions has unveiled in quick succession. The other, the 126-passenger National Geographic Endurance, also has debuted in recent months and is sailing in Antarctica.

It ran right into a seemingly endless sheet of snow-topped ice that stretched off to the horizon. We’ll explore all aspects of cruising with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic so you can decide if it’s right for your next vacation. Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic values the ability to reach the planet’s wildest and most remote places safely with top experts and the luxury of comfort while making community and insight the center of expedition life.

From the Antarctic Circle to the Weddell Sea

In fact, there is no dress code nor are there formal nights on board. There is no dress code or formal nights on any Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic cruise. Guests are allowed to dress comfortably and casually anywhere on board. Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic travels to destinations across the globe from 33 departure ports. The 2024 Fellows will explore destinations such as Antarctica, the Galápagos, Patagonia, Alaska, the Arctic and beyond.

Wind and currents can quickly pack drifting ice around a vessel that's buried nose-first in fast ice, making backing out tricky. Vessels with traditional propeller systems that try to reverse their way out of such situations risk damaging their propellers. In a relatively rare and wonderful moment of Antarctica touring, we had made "landfall" on a sheet of fast ice — sea ice that is "fastened" to the coastline. Unlike drift (or pack) ice, fast ice doesn't move with currents and wind, and it is relatively stable. No, you don’t have to dress up when you cruise with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic.

Daily briefings of the area along with topical lectures by experts in their fields happen several times per day. The closet has a rack with hangers, a shelf with two long drawers underneath and another bottom shelf, perfect for storing footwear. There are bedside tables with both USB and outlets at the top, and a light and reading light above each table. In the lower category rooms, a small desk with a shallow drawer comes equipped with a chair that provides the only seating in the room.

With a focus on outdoor exploration, adventure gear is perfectly acceptable on this ship. Showing up for meals wearing hiking boots, weatherproof pants and other outdoor wear is not unexpected. The real entertainment on Venture is scenery, nature and lectures by onboard experts.

The day before reaching Lallemand Fjord, after a Drake Passage crossing that lasted barely 40 hours, we had pulled into one of the most stunningly beautiful spots in all of the continent, the ice-filled Lemaire Channel. While the ship still pitched forward and back in the waves, it was a smoother rise and fall, without the big bow slaps against the waves you get with traditional bows in heavy seas — something that can send shudders through an entire vessel. But when it came time to leave Lallemand Fjord, National Geographic Resolution's seasoned captain, Martin Graser, was able to use the ship's Azipod thrusters to spin it around almost in place so it could break out of the ice facing forward.

Browse our team directory to discover the full cast of expedition staff. Lindblad has built up a lot of expertise in polar cruising over many decades of offering ship-based trips to places like Antarctica — an expertise that shows in the way it designed National Geographic Resolution. Along with its sister vessel, the ship is one of the most versatile around for exploring the destination and other polar regions. After four trips to the White Continent, I'm convinced it's truly the ultimate Antarctica cruise ship. That isn't the case with bigger expedition ships that often carry at least 200 and sometimes even 400 or 500 people.

Even for people like me who have traveled by ship through polar regions many times, it was a special moment — one made possible by the remarkable abilities of this new vessel. From an observation deck overlooking National Geographic Resolution's bow, I watched, mesmerized, as the 126-passenger vessel pushed aside giant slabs of ice with ease. We were plowing through one of the thickest ice fields that I have ever experienced during a polar sailing. And the Lindblad Expeditions ship was bumping through it like it didn't have a care in the world. Santo Antao is a diverse and rich island surrounded by beautiful subtropical reefs.

When Lindblad Expeditions bought the ship in October 2007, it needed considerable rebuilding. National Geographic Explorer now roams the world, offering expedition cruises in the Polar regions and cultural enrichment sailings in the Baltic and Mediterranean seas. Lindblad and its partner, National Geographic, provide a top team of 14 naturalists, historians and photographers who cruise aboard Explorer. Some have been with Lindblad for years, and they, along with two highly experienced captains, aim to get the ship as close to wildlife as is warranted and give passengers the unique experiences they crave.

Crew helps guests into zodiacs from a platform at the stern of the ship. Not every expedition cruise vessel is capable of pushing itself into fast ice in Antarctica to give passengers a chance to walk above the frozen sea. Those that are usually only do it early in the Antarctica cruise season, when fast ice is more plentiful. The longer expeditions attract an older group, except during school holidays, and the shorter trips see a wider age range. Most passengers are Americans, with a smattering from Europe, Australia or East and South Asia, depending on the cruising region. The ship prints a list of passenger and staff names, along with everyone's cities, states and countries of origin.

The day ended with a spectacular sunset with everyone in attendance on the bow of the ship. There are no accessible staterooms and there are plenty of obstacles on the ship. However, confident guests do travel with walkers and deal with the lack of accessibility features. Service levels from both cabin crew and expedition staff is familiar and relaxed. The predominantly American ship crew, whether they are in the kitchen or on the rigid inflatable boats share the same passion for the wilderness and are eager to engage in discussion about your own interests. All the while, your cabin, table and lounge are quickly and efficiently attended as on any other top-rated vessel.

Most come with balconies — something that used to be rare for expedition vessels. About 20% are large suites, with a similar number of solo cabins. For a vessel designed to carry just 126 passengers, National Geographic Resolution offers a generous array of eateries and lounges, all with a soothing, Scandinavian-influenced design. Plus, it features a small but inviting spa and a fitness center that is large for a ship of this size. In addition, Resolution boasts both a rear-facing marina and side doors at the waterline for loading passengers into Zodiacs — a redundancy that gives the ship an edge in running Zodiac operations amid wind and waves.

Grand Cayman Cruise Port 11 Best Things To Do In Grand Cayman

Whether you wish to be a beach bum all day or seek some active water sports, this is the beach for you. Water sports equipment rental shops and local boat tour operators can be found on the beach as well, especially on its northern ends. The tour of the caves lasts usually up to 1h 30 minutes, and there is also a gift shop where you can get souvenirs and refreshments. The wreck was cleared of all hazardous materials and it is completely safe to explore its chambers and the abundant sea life. Grand Cayman is a place that has been on my list for quite some time and I finally got the chance to visit on our recent 7-Day Western Caribbean cruise. When we visit a new port on a cruise, we typically like to maximize our time and spend as much time exploring as we can.

The tropical weather is just fabulous and the unmatched clarity of the ocean waters that surround the island are just two of many reasons to visit this island. George Town is the capital city of Grand Cayman and the port which all cruise ships visit. For those that have never been in this very popular cruise port, the cruise traveler should know that this is what is called a tender port.

Where to Eat and Drink in George Town Near the Cruise Port

The “Kittiwake” is an ex-US Navy ship which was sunk on purpose off of Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach in 2011. Enjoy exploring this sunken ship, and keep an eye out for marine life hiding in the nooks and cracks. Grand Cayman is a safe place, the roads are well maintained and touring the island is ideal for people looking for an active and fun way to see new places. Places of interest include the Craft Market, Heroes Square Walk, Fort George and the Fish Market. From deep-sea to fly-fishing, you will enjoy going fishing on this island. Best of all, no experience is needed as the fishing crew takes care of everything.

Shore Excursions or On Your Own

The first was the popular USS Kittiwake, a purposefully-sunk ship that is a diver's delight. The second was a shipwreck and the reef that it struck before sinking. Spending the morning exploring the incredibly clear waters of Grand Cayman made for the perfect start to the day. Our excursion only lasted 3 hours so that gave us plenty of time to further explore George Town.

At the end of the block, Cardinal Avenue is a continuation of the best shops in George Town - Cartier Boutique, Magnum Jewelers, Kirk, La Perfumerie, Time Zone, among others. Don’t miss out on this attraction it boasts of some of the largest stingrays in the entire Caribbean. These beautiful creatures are harmless, making them the most loved tourist attractions on the Grand Cayman. All three terminals at the Grand Cayman Cruise Port are mere steps away from various eateries and shopping venues. Duty-free shopping is available right at the port itself in the large shopping centers that are located at each terminal. Today, it is a history museum where you can explore 18th-century furniture and authentic artifacts, see the Stamp Room and Hurricane Ivan Memorial, or go for the rum tasting. The highlight of the visit is the 20-minute theater show that reveals the fascinating history of Pedro St. James and the Cayman Islands.

To save time, consider renting a vehicle, however, plan your rental in advance. When on a western Caribbean cruise vacation your ship will likely call in the Cayman Islands so we've got all of these things to do in Grand Cayman. The only form of public transportation on the island is the public bus, which unfortunately doesn't operate at the airport. The USS Kittiwake lies in the north portion of Seven Mile Beach, and to get there, you need to take a 15-minute ride up north along Seven Mile Beach, and then board a boat that will get you to the shipwreck.

Dozens of restaurants and beach bars can be found on the beach, offering excellent service and delicious food, as well as major hotel chains, designer shops, and other venues. A typical and famous Cayman souvenir shop - TooHot - and the famous artist Guy Harvey's gallery are next to each other and right after Hard Rock. Buses are small vans but with air condition, clean, inexpensive and everyone is very friendly - in fact, you will find that many visitors to Grand Cayman use the Public Bus services. Buses to the Seven Mile Beach depart every 10 to 15 minutes and cost US$ 2.50 per person each way. Most top attractions are served by these public buses costing US$ 2.50 to Turtle Farm, Hell, Pedro Castle or Pirate Cave; to the Botanical Gardens ticket is $5.00 and $10.00 to Rum Point. The main docking spot for the tenders is the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal on the northern part of George Town.

Don’t let the island’s scrubland terrain fool you — a spectacular marine paradise lies just offshore, where a living undersea wall tapers off dramatically into the ocean depths. Cruises to Grand Cayman bring you directly to the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the kaleidoscopic Cayman Islands. When you get up close and personal with the resident stingrays and turtles, you’ll soon learn why beach-goers and nature lovers rank cruises to the Grand Cayman as some of the best in the Caribbean. The Grand Cayman Cruise Port, which is the main Cayman Islands' cruise port, welcomes about 1.4 million cruise passengers annually and is one of the most visited Caribbean cruise ports. With over 3 million cruise ship passengers docking in its 3 pier/terminals, Cozumel is one of the most visited port in the World.

The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Grand Cayman Island, George Town Harbour. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link. George Town is the capital city of Grand Cayman and serves as the primary port of entry for ships heading to the island. Known as a tender port, this means that instead of directly docking at the terminal, tender boats will ferry you from the cruise ship to the terminal.

The Ultimate Guide to the Grand Cayman Cruise Port in George Town

carnival cruise port grand cayman

After arriving in George Town, you’ll notice that the city’s main attractions are conveniently situated within walking distance of the cruise port. However, some shore excursions, such as Pageant Beach and The National Gallery, might require taking a taxi. On the opposite side of Harbor Drive, by the sea, you will not miss the South Terminal and right across the massive Bayshore Mall. Owned and operated by locals, the name Kirk Freeport may not mean much to most passengers cruising the Caribbean who are used to the typical ubiquitous brands promoted onboard all cruise ships.

Construction on Second Chinese-Built Cruise Ship Well Underway

Take a walk through the magnificent edifice with its retro furniture and authentic pieces to experience what life was like in Cayman’s history. The Great House is the oldest surviving stone building and has survived, fires, hurricanes, and vandalism. While in George Town, you will have the perfect opportunity to explore the town, do some duty-free shopping and enjoy some of the local cuisines. Among the most notable attractions in George town is the National Museum, make a point of stopping by to learn the rich history and culture of the island. The anchorage area allows several ships at a time and when there are more, some are forced to remain at sea. When there are high winds the cruise ship will often skip the port of call at Grand Cayman because tendering would not be safe.

Public Bus

By understanding the logistics of the Grand Cayman cruise port, you can embark on your island adventure with confidence and ease. The primary cruise port, located in George Town, serves as the gateway to this exotic paradise. The pre-purchase window for certain products and activities closes between one and three days prior to the sail date.
